Celebrating Savage Afterworld's Post 1,000...And YOU'RE Getting The Presents!

Hey gang! The Savage AfterWorld launched on June 17, 2009, and on June 2, 2016, I (finally) reached Post Number 1,000! Over the past 7 years, I've reviewed games, discussed conventions I was attending, and wrote oh-so-many RPG supplemental pieces. I hope you've enjoyed reading all 1,000 posts! (Well, not ALL of them. There are some dogs in there, admittedly.)

A few months back when I realized Post #1,000 was coming up, I knew I wanted to give back to the community -- rewarding those folks who have visited this little corner of the Interwebs. So I began compiling a stockpile of what became known as "A Few Of Sniderman's Favorite Things." These are games and supplements that hold special meaning to me -- many have been featured and/or reviewed here at The Savage AfterWorld.

And now, you're gonna get a chance to own some of 'em.

After this post goes live, I'll be accepting entries for a random drawing to be held Sunday, July 10, 8 p.m. EST. At that time, I'll be drawing 15 names at random from all entries to win some crazy-cool stuff. How do you enter? Well, wouldn't you like to see what's up for grabs? Here we go:

One person will win an Old School Gamer Patch. Sew it onto your hat, backpack or dicebag for old school cred. And three folks will win a custom-made die keychain. Two of them are d20 keychains, and one is a special Cthulhu die keychain. (All made by yours truly.)
Someone will win my one of my favorite RPG supplements -- Chill's Evenings of Terror. This great adventure compilation has NINE separate horror adventures for the Pacesetter Chill RPG and, by extension, Cryptworld! Great stuff within!
And if gonzo adventuring is more your speed, how about the Anomalous Subsurface Environment adventure series? These two books will take your adventuring party into a mapcap underground labyrinth of superscience, mutants, and very, very wild encounters. Highly rated and recommended! ONe person's gonna win BOTH of these books for one super-mega-dungeon of fun!
Demon Dogs! You can't have visited The Savage AfterWorld and not know of my love affair with the Thundarr the Barbarian cartoon! I've also created the World of Thundarr the Barbarian Sourcebook for Mutant Future. I have these custom printed for swag giveaways at conventuions I run Thundarr games at, which is the only way you can typically get your hands on one of these. But, for this giveaways, here are three copies for three lucky folks!
I love cheesy B movies, and no RPG captures this genre better than the classic game It Came From the Late, Late, Late Show. One of you will win the rules to this great game. (I need to run a game at an upcoming con, in fact...)
And speaking of cheesy, one of the best comedic superheroes RPG ever made is Stuper Powers! I have two copies of this wacky roleplaying game of third-rate heroes for two folks.
Since I earlier mentioned Thundarr, it's no surprise that 1980s cartoon action is a favorite genre. Cartoon Action Hour "gets it" by letting you play in game based on those action toons -- GI Joe, Thundercats, MASK, and more! I even kicked in on the Kickstarter for the third edition and I appear as a Thundarr-esque-like NPC! The print edition is not yet available to buyers, but my personal Kickstarted edition is being given away to one lucky person!

And now for the two BIG giveaways. As you might know, The Savage AfterWorld started as a Mutant Future-focused blog. For years, I focused on my favorite retro post-apocalyptic game, and even wrote up a couple of supplements for it. So, one person will win this Mutant Future RPG Package:

The Mutant Future rules (soft cover); Deviant Database (both 1.0 and 2.0); One Year In The Savage AfterWorld; and The Metamorphica.

My other roleplaying contributions have been for a resurrection of Pacesetter horror gaming: Cryptworld! So if you've wanted to fight monsters and investigate the supernatural, here's your chance to win the entire Cryptworld game line:

Cryptworld rules (soft cover); Monsters Macabre (soft cover); and Creepy Comic Conversion Issue 1: The Case of the Painted Beast.

For a chance to win something, just send an email to gameagain at gmail dot com with "Post 1000 Giveaway" in the subject line. In the body of the email, provide your name and email address. I'll compile the entries and will draw 15 of them at random to win one of the items listed above. And I'll happily ship worldwide, so this is open to folks around the world. (One entry per person please. Dupes will be tossed.)

Good luck everyone, and thanks very much for your patronage here at The Savage AfterWorld!

200 Word RPG Challenge Now Underway!

Admit it -- you have a great idea for an RPG, but you don't have the time or drive to hammer out thousands upon thousands of words to see it reach fruition. Well, if you have time to type up 200 words -- less than one page of text -- you have time to put together your fantasy heartbreaker and enter the 200 Word RPG Challenge.
I love RPG design contests, as it really brings out the creativity in our corner of the OSRiverse. I also love minimization -- trying to do as much as you can with as little as you're given. Put these two concepts together, and you have The 200 Word RPG Challenge -- a contest that dares you to flesh out a full RPG game system or supplement in just 200 words. Spearheaded by game designer David Schirduan, the challenge began last year with a simple writing prompt:

"Design a Tabletop RPG, Setting, Hack, Expansion, or whatever in 200 words or less."

There were more than 150 submissions in last year's contest covering every genre imaginable with systems both complex and spartan. (Click here and take a look at last years' entries and winners!) After the contest ends and prizes are awarded, all entries will be compiled into a PWYW book with proceeds going to charity. (All entries are submitted under the CC-BY 4.0 license.)

The contest runs through April 16, so you don't have much time to get your entry in. (But it's only 200 words, so it's not like you NEED a lot of time!) So, what can YOU do with 200 words?

Join The Ranks Of The D-Listers In The Great Stuper Powers Giveaway!

Wanna copy of my favorite "incompetent superheroes" RPG? I have two brand new copies of Stuper Powers! (first edition) that I'm giving away to two visitors to the Savage AfterWorld! If you want one of these, just comment to this post. Sometime tomorrow, I'll draw two names at random from the commentators, and those two folks will get a copy! I don't mind shipping to other countries, so this is open to everyone worldwide. Good luck!

Yay! I'm An OSR Superstar First Round Finalist!

Just found out that one of my magic items made the first round cut of Tenkar's "So You Want To Be An OSR Superstar" competition. My "Rune Eraser" is one of 41 items that passed muster out of 339 entries submitted. So I'm pretty stoked to be in such company

So, for the next round, I need to submit a new unique monster for the Swords & Wizardry system. I'm all about monster-makin' as my Deviant Database and Weird Works will attest. (Not to mention several Things found in the Cryptworld rulebook and many, many mutants found here at Ye Olde Savage AfterWorlde.) I have one new monster in mind that I was going to stat up for the new Cryptworld supplement I'm working on, but it struck me as a bit too "fantasy-oriented" for a modern horror game. But it'd be a perfect fit in the S&W universe. Wish me luck!

I don't mind shipping worldwide, so folks all around this Big  Blue Marble of ours are welcome to enter. Good luck!

Trick Or Treat! Smell My Feet!

Happy Mutantween everyone!

In honor of this most creepy of holidays, I decided to have my own Mutantween Trick-or-Treat right here at The Savage AfterWorld! In a bowl next to the front door, I have the following treats for 11 lucky mutants:

5 trick-or-treaters will each get a Savage AfterWorld dice!
5 trick-or-treaters will each get a PDF copy of my recently released Deviant Database!
And one extra-special lucky trick-or-treater will get the Deviant Database both in PDF and hardcopy print formats as well as a Savage AfterWorld dice to add to their dice bag!

To qualify for a treat, just post in a Comment to this blog entry with your email contact in the Comment. Feel free to "de-Spambot" it in any way you wish, ie, name (at) whatever (dot) com or something. (See my email address over there in the right-hand column.) That's all it takes. When I have 11 responders, I'll randomly give out the "treats." You might get a book, you might get a dice, or you might get the Good Package. It's that simple. To keep things fair, only one Comment/entry per person. If I see a dupe entry, I toss 'em both, so reply only once. Also, don't enter multiple times under different names/accounts. That's just an ass thing to do. Next up, this is open to folks worldwide, as I'm happy to ship globally. I'll update this thread when we have all 11 trick-or-treaters, and I'll contact everyone via email with what they found in their goodie bag. (I'll also get addresses for mailing physical items at that time.)

So put on your costume, have your parents hide in the bushes nearby, screw up some courage, and ring the doorbell!

EDITED TO ADD: OK, I've turned off the porchlight and I'm hiding from any further visitors. And here's what everyone found in their goodie bag!

Savage AfterWorld Dice: Tetsubo; Steve Balrog; "Anonymous"; Michael Bolam; mwschmeer
Deviant Database Electronic Version: Justin Issac; Danjou's Hand; Robert; Storyteller1976; brink
And the Whole Kit-n-kaboodle: Ironbeaver

((GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED! SORRY YOU MISSED IT!))

I'm not just gonna HAND these dice to you.)

Anyway, this offer is good worldwide, as I don't mind shipping to any Mutant Minions in other countries. Once I get 10 replies, I'll update this message letting everyone else know the giveaway has ended. [Festival of Fright] Contest: The Stars Are Right!

For the Halloween edition of this year's Festival of Fright, I'm giving away a softback print copy of Goblinoid Games' Realms of Crawling Chaos. This Cthulhuesque supplement is fully compatible with Mutant Future, with new races, creatures, and rules for psionics. What better way to frighten your mutant PCs than by having a Great Old One stomping through the ruins!

To enter, just post in a Comment to this thread with your email contact in the Comment. Feel free to "de-Spambot" it in any way you wish, ie, name (at) whatever (dot) com or something. (See my email address over there in the right-hand column.) That's all it takes. Sometime later today, I'll take everyone who commented and will randomly draw a winner from the list. I'll update this thread when the contest has ended and when a winner has been drawn and contacted.

EDITED TO ADD: And we have a winner! Of the 12 folks who entered, the lucky winner chosen by random d12 die roll is...well...I'm not sure how to pronounce "8afec12a-040d-11e1-8cfb-000bcdcb5194" so we;ll just use the first bits of his email address and claim "Stephan.LH" as the winner! Stephan, I've sent you an email telling you how to claim your prize. And thanks to everyone else for playing!

Mutant Future RPG Stuff Giveaway! (Second Attempt)

Back in June, I held a "Second Anniversary" contest for Followers of The Savage AfterWorld. I had a host of prizes, and I drew six names at random from the Followers who had signed up. And after several weeks of posting and emailing and asking them to come forward, I was only able to give away ONE of the prizes to winners who claimed them.

So here we go again.

I have five Mutant Future-related prizes to give away to readers of this blog. Some are leftovers from the first go-round, and a few are new prizes I picked up at Gen Con 2011 specifically to give away in this new contest. Up for grabs are:
And here's a picture of the prizes we're givin' away:
To enter, just post in a Comment to this post with your email contact in the Comment. Feel free to "de-Spambot" it in any way you wish, ie, name (at) whatever (dot) com or something. (See my email address over there in the right-hand column.) That's all it takes. Sometime on Tuesday, August 16, I'll take everyone who commented and will randomly draw five winners from the list. Finally, be sure to tune in on Tuesday as I'll be posting the winner's names. I'll also be firing off emails to the winners. But, unlike last time, you'll have 48 hours to respond with a mailing address before I write it off as a no-show and I draw another winner.

So that's the game. Good luck to everyone. The entry list begins...NOW.

Quick Giveaway: Win "Books of the Wastes"

Hey gang,

Chuck Rice of Vigilance Press was kind enough to offer five free copies of Books of the Wastes to readers of The Savage AfterWorld. Books of the Wastes is a six-page supplement that offers the Mutant Lord a series of long-forgotten texts their Mutant Future PCs might stumble upon in their adventures. What kinds of information can the Ancient Words impart to the wasteland wanderers? A new "learning" rules mechanism is also introduced, giving PCs a reason to seek out these tomes and study their contents.

Chuck will provide a free copy of his new book to the first five people who send me an email with "Books of the Wastes Giveaway" in the subject line. (My email address is over yonder in the right-hand column.) I'll update this message when we have our five "winners."

EDITED TO ADD: Congrats to Rich S., Derek D., Eric C., Brian R., and Robert B. who are the winners of the giveaway. Please watch your email for information from Chuck on how to claim your prize.

For those who didn't win or missed the giveaway, Books of the Wastes is only 99 cents and is now available for download at RPG Now.

Total Prize Claimants Thus Far: 0

Nearly two weeks ago, I held a Mutant Future giveaway to celebrate the second year of The Savage AfterWorld. I posted the names of the following winners and sent out emails to the addresses they had registered with:
  • Mutant Future rulebook goes to "elrics"
  • Apocalypse Tech Report goes to "Jason"
  • Set of Nuke Dice goes to "Kev"
  • Radioactive Waste Dice Cups go to "jmezz382," "AslanC," and "Pete Politis"
And so far the following winners have claimed their prizes:

That's right; no one has yet contacted me to claim their prize. Hmmmm... This was not an issue I expected to have happen, but I suppose I may have randomly drawn six people who don't visit this blog. Or check their emails. Or they used a bogus account when first registering. Or whatever.

Anyway, my goal is to get these items into the hands of regular readers. So consider this a Last Call for the original winners to step forward and claim their prize. Any prizes I still have on-hand in, say, another week or two, I'll give away to a new set of winners through a more targeted method.

So if you won something, step forward today for the clock's running out!

Quick Giveaway: Win "Nuclear Sunset: The Southwest"

Hey gang,

With the 99 cent sale of Nuclear Sunset: The Southwest underway for another day or so, I thought I'd spring for a few copies for folks who have not yet picked it up. So I'll purchase a gift PDF for the first five people who send me an email with "Nuclear Sunset Giveaway" in the subject line. (My email address is over yonder in the right-hand column.) Put your RPG Now email address in the body of the message. If you don't have one, just send me your primary email address and you can use that to register and claim your PDF at the site. I'll update this message when I have the five "winners."

EDIT TO ADD: OK, WE HAVE OUR FIVE WINNERS. NO MORE ENTRIES ACCEPTED.

Congrats to Zach H., Matt S., Aaron F., Alan K., and Tim DeC.! (And one more out to JDJ!)

Our Second Year In The Savage AfterWorld (And Who Won Those Prizes?)

The Savage AfterWorld turns two years old today. In that time, this blog has accumulated:
  • 283 posts, with 22 mini-adventures for survivors to traipse through, 72 new creatures to populate your blasted landscape, and 22 bizarre future tech for PCs to wield.
  • 59,111 page views over that time, which averages out to 80 a day. (Most of those could be web spiders and spammers, but I'll take what I can get).
  • 168 Followers who enjoy this blog enough to sign up for updates and who stop by regularly. (Well, there are some who have signed up solely to win something today, but -- again -- I'll take what I can get.)
So, again, thanks for your support. Here's looking forward to many more trips into The Savage AfterWorld! And about those prizes I promised, let's get to it.

Rather than using a set of polyhedral dice (blasphemy!), I used Random.org to select the random winners of the prizes. Set it up for random numbers between 1 and 168 and, starting from the first page of registered Followers, I counted through the pages until I reached the name of each winner. And here are the winners of our Mutant Minion Giveaway:

  • Mutant Future rulebook goes to "elrics"
  • Apocalypse Tech Report goes to "Jason"
  • Set of Nuke Dice goes to "Kev"
  • Radioactive Waste Dice Cups go to "jmezz382," "AslanC," and "Pete Politis"
Winners have been contacted through the email they used to register as a follower of the blog, so be sure to check that address for information on claiming your prize. Congrats!

And for everyone who didn't win, enjoy a piece of birthday cake!

24 Hours Left To Enter Our Mutant Future Giveaway

Just wanted to remind everyone that there are still 24 hours left to enter our Second Birthday Mutant Future Giveaway. The prizes up for grabs include softcover copies of the Mutant Future rulebook and Apocalypse Tech Report supplement; a set of Q-Workshop Nuke Dice; and Radioactive Waste dice cups. The random drawing will be held Friday, June 17, on our second anniversary of this blog's launch. Become a Mutant Minion for your chance to win! Good luck!

Our Second Birthday, But YOU Get The Presents!

The Savage AfterWorld launched on June 17, 2009. As we near the two-year mark of this blighted blog, I wanted to thank my readers by doing something nice for those who have supported it over the years. Ergo, in six days on the Official Birthday of TSAW, I will hold a random drawing for six readers to win the following prizes:

One reader will receive a brand-new softcover Mutant Future rulebook! If you've been wanting to get your hands on a freshly printed copy straight from Lulu, here's your chance!
Another reader will win a brand new softcover Apocalypse Tech Report supplement for Mutant Future! If your games could use a bit more weird science and bizarre devices, look no further.A third reader will get a brand new set of Nuke Dice from Q Workshop. These black-on-gray dice look like they've been ravaged by The Final Wars. A radiation symbol marks the highest number on each one as well. And three readers will each get a custom-made Radioactive Waste dice cup created by Yours Truly! How big are they? Well, mine holds two sets of polyhedral dice, another eight d6s, and one big ol' d30. Plenty of space for your most toxic of randomizers!

So how can you be in the running to win one of these items? Simple - you just have to be a "Mutant Minion" by registering as a Follower of The Savage AfterWorld (over there in the far right column). If you're already a Follower, you're already entered! If not, you have until Friday morning to get yourself listed and entered.

On June 17, on the official anniversary date, I'll take all of the registered Followers of this blog and will randomly draw six winners from the ranks. Those folks'll get the goods described above. This random giveaway is open to folks worldwide, as I'll happily ship your winnings wherever you may be. So good luck to everyone...and thanks again for your support. More Mutant Future goodness is coming from The Savage AfterWorld this year (including our first published supplement and adventure), so stay tuned!

NOTE: I'll try to contact the winners through the info they used to become a Follower. But on the off-chance your info doesn't have any blog or email info for contact, be sure to poke back in for the Winner's List to see if you won something!

I Told You To Keep Your @*#! Hands Off My Mug!

Pictured above is a rotated view of a mug I stumbled across at the local flea market. The plastic mug (aged, but new and never used) is about, oh, 7-8 inches high with a yellow handle and yellow snap-on lid. There is a straw hole in the lid. Looks like it may have been a premium given away at a fast food restaurant or convenience store.

As you can see from the photos, the image is delightfully apocalyptic with a wild-haired, wild-eyed survivalist dressed in a tattered denim vest with a ammo bandolier crossing his chest. In one hand, he clutches a Bowie knife; in the other, he fires off some kind of automatic weapon. And during all of the chaos, he screams "I Told You To Keep Your @*#! Hands Off My Mug!"

Anyway, I grabbed the only two he had. And I'm givin' them away. Want one? Here's how to enter the giveaway: Just post in a Comment to this post with what you think this guy's name is. (I've been calling him "Cawdor" -- some of you may get the reference...) I'll draw two random winners sometime next week. Please post only once in the thread. Multiple entries are not allowed. Make sure I can somehow reach you via email if you win! I'll ship internationally, so everyone feel free to enter. Good luck. And remember:

I Told You To Keep Your @*#! Hands Off My Mug!"

And The Thundarr DVD Set Winner Is...

...Chad Thorson!

Chad's entry (drawn at random from those who posted in this thread) was as follows:
"Lords of Light! Look! Slithering out from that rock! It's a serpent with the face of a Richard Nixon!"

Congrats Chad!

Thundarr The Barbarian "Lords Of Light!" Contest

Hey gang,

My weekly Thundarr Thursday series is very popular according to the spike in hits each week. I also see that many of you have downloaded the World of Thundarr the Barbarian supplement I've created, which is also rewarding. But how many of you have actually seen an episode of this cartoon series? I've read more than one comment from visitors saying they never saw the show, but have since discovered it on You Tube. Others remember the show from their youth, but it's been years since they've seen it.

So I'm giving away a three-DVD set of the entire two-season run of Thundarr the Barbarian! One lucky winner will get all 21 episodes on three DVDs. Now's your chance to win the entire run in one few swoop! (Keep in mind that this is a custom-created compilation of the episodes - not a commercial release.)

To enter this contest, you just just have to supply some dialogue for our favorite post-apocalyptic barbarian. Just like a Mad Lib, you simply have to fill in the blanks and post your entry in the comments area of this post. Imagine Thundarr, Ookla, and Princess Ariel bring their mounts to a screeching halt. Thundarr points nearby and shouts:

"Lords of Light! Look! _____ing out from that _____!
It's a _____ with the _____ of a _____!"

That's it. I will randomly select one entry on the next Thundarr Thursday (April 29) to receive the prize. I'll ship internationally, so this is open to all! (But the DVDs may not play unless your player can handle region 1.) Have fun!
