RPG-A-DAY 2015 Day 13: Favorite RPG Podcast...Dead Games Society & Spellburn

13. FAVORITE RPG PODCAST...
I don't listen to many podcasts, honestly, so my knowledge of the wide variety of  'casts available is minimal. But there are two that I have listened to on occasion that I enjoy, so they are -- by default -- my "favorites."

DEAD GAMES SOCIETY PODCAST
The Dead Games Society is a one of my favorite gaming organizations dedicated to celebrating and playing games that are no longer in print. Their podcast celebrates those classic RPGs by putting them in the spotlight again, talking with creators and fans about these oft-overlooked classics. Recent 'casts have covered Top Secret, Star Frontiers, and Boot Hill. (Yours truly was also interviewed too.) Check out the Dead Games Society Podcast here or by clicking the logo above.

SPELLBURN DCC RPG PODCAST
For fans of the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, the Spellburn podcast is a virtual cornucopia of new material to use for the gonzo fantasy RPG. Hosted by and featuring some of the movers and shakers of DCC RPG, the podcast features a ton of gameable content, reviews and overviews of new DCC material, announcements of upcoming products, and a host of more mind-melting material! RPG-A-DAY 2015 Day 12: Favorite RPG Illustration...Player's Handbook Cover

12. FAVORITE RPG ILLUSTRATION...
In my mind, this is the most iconic RPG illustration ever created. Courtesy of Dave Trampier, the cover image from the AD&D Player's Handbook summarizes everything I enjoyed about dungeon delving as a young'un.

RPG-A-DAY 2015 Day 11: Favorite RPG Writer...Gary Gygax

11. FAVORITE RPG WRITER...
Gary Gygax. No need to elaborate.

RPG-A-DAY 2015 Day 10: Favorite RPG Publisher...Goblinoid Games / Pacesetter LTD

10. FAVORITE RPG PUBLISHER...
Honestly, most of my interactions with current RPG publishers have been nothing but positive. Since I go to many different cons and events, I've gotten to know many of the folks "behind the scenes" in the industry and they have nearly all been exemplary. However, if I'm measuring which publisher has had the biggest effect on me and this blog, It's no contest. I'd have to give the nod to Goblinoid Games.

You see, more than five years ago, I was looking to re-enter the RPG hobby, and a cursory Internet search made me aware of the OSR. It was a style of gaming I enjoyed Back In The Day, and was something I was interested in returning to. So that's how I initially stumbled onto Labyrinth Lord, which was my "gateway game" back into gaming. From  there, I discovered GG's post-apocalyptic offshoot Mutant Future, and the rest -- as they say -- is history. For those new to The Savage AfterWorld, this blog was singularly a Mutant Future resource for many years: the game made that big an impression on me. I've written a few supplements for the game, in fact, and my Thundarr the Barbarian supplement is based on that game system. And when Dan acquired and resurrected Pacesetter LTD -- my favorite game publisher of the 80s -- you can see why Goblinoid Games/Pacesetter is my favorite publisher. Thanks Dan!
