Obligatory Top Ten Savage AfterWorld Posts of 2012

As we say goodbye to 2012, it's time for a little introspection as I review the activity of this blog for the last 365 days...

  • My output increased considerably this year, as I had 176 posts during 2012 -- 50 more than any previous year since The Savage AfterWorld began. That's one post every other day during the year.
  • After writing about Mutant Future for 4 years, I finally released my first RPG supplement for the system. The Deviant Database has been very well received and sales have been somewhat steady.
  • Thundarr Thursday went live at Gen Con this year as I ran Thundarr: Beyond the Dimensional Divide for 6 enthusiastic players. More Thundarr will be seen (and played) at other cons in 2013!

And here are the Top Ten posts for 2012:

  1. This Just In: TSR Games To Live Again - The breaking news of TSR's resurrection and Gygax Magazine's imminent release was the most-hit post of the year. I'll predict that my review of the first issue (if I can get my hands on it) will be just as popular.
  2. Gary Con Day 3: I Killed Andrew; Jim Killed Me; And Michael Killed Everyone Else - I got the chance to play Metamorphosis Alpha at Gary Con run by Mr. Jim Ward himself. The game was a comedy of errors, as this recap reveals.
  3. The World of Thundarr The Barbarian Sourcebook - Final Version Released - After several years of updates and additions, I finally put this august tome to bed by releasing the final update to the ultimate guide to the Thundarr-verse.
  4. Thundarr...Korgoth...Now GUNDARR! - After discovering this animated series, I had to share it with everyone.
  5. Doomsday Preppers Premieres February 7 - Any TV show based on the upcoming apocalypse is fodder for the blog and potential game inspriation.
  6. [Thundarr Thursday] Gen Con's "Thundarr the Barbarian: Across The Dimensional Divide" Available For Download - After a successful run at Gen Con, I posted the adventure so everyone could have a chance to ride with Thundarr, Ookla, and Ariel.
  7. How To Ensure There Won't Be A Second FLGS Visit - After seeking out a new game store to visit, I had to warn others of my lackluster visit.
  8. My Endless Quest Has Ended - After several years of collecting, I finally completed my collection of Endless Quest choose-your-own-adventure gamebooks.
  9. Deviant Database For Mutant Future Now Available! - The official release announcement of my Mutant Future bestiary. (And if you haven't grabbed one up yet, why not do it now?)
  10. Savage Menagerie: Gallows - The only RPG supplemental material that made the list, this tree-dwelling octopus must have struck a chord in visitors.

And now, on to 2013! Thanks for the support!

Obligatory Top Ten 2011 Posts At The Savage AfterWorld

I use Google Analytics to track hits and visitors, as well as which posts are generating the most interest. And, as is customary for bloggers on this date, it's time to review...
The Top Ten Most Popular Savage AfterWorld Blog Posts of 2011!

And here we go, counting down to the most popular post...

10. Mutant Future RPG Stuff Giveaway! (Second Attempt) - My first attempt to give away a bunch of Mutant Future-related prizes was met with a lot of no shows. My second attempt was better received.

9. Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Fhtagn! - The release of Realms of Crawling Chaos was announced. Its compatibility with Mutant future is something I've been itching to try!

8. [Savage Menagerie] Octoshark - Inspired by producer Roger Corman's "Sharktopus," I brought the toothy multi-armed creature into the Mutant Future.

7. [Thundarr Thursday] Thundarr RPGs Found Throughout The Blogosphere - Turns out I'm not the only person inspired by the classic Ruby Spears cartoon!

6. The Savage AfterWorld's Customizable "Do-It-Yourself-You-Cheap-Bastard" Gamemaster's Screen - Tired of looking for instructions on how to create my own GM screen, I cobbled one together and shared the how-to instructions with readers.

5. Giant Mutant Chickens? Call In LEGO Hazmat Guy! - Here's where it gets interesting. This was just a bit of a "throw-off" post, but my guess is that LEGO enthusiasts have been giving me the hits.

4. Gamma World Coming To PSN, XBL, and PC This Fall - Big announcement from E3 on an upcoming videogame based on the Gamma World game system.

3. Notorious NPC: Feldspar the Geologian - A nifty NPC based on my Geologian race. The hits were caused by -- of all things -- the word "golem" embedded in the image's file name. No idea why this term was searched for so much, but that's what made this post so popular. (I've since changed the file name to keep the hits to a normal level.)

2. Hot Post-Apocalyptic Chicks! Elven! Cyborg! And "Other!" - This meme was sweeping the OSR blogosphere as we all basically pandered to the masses offering HOT ELVEN CHIXXX!!!! And whatdya know...it worked!

And the Top Post of 2011:

1. Post-Apocalyptic Ruined City Map Generator - This incredibly useful map generator has just been HAMMERED over the year. There are a lot of folks getting a lot of use out of it as it's my most popular post by far.

And onto 2012!

Obligatory Top Ten Posts Of 2009 At The Savage AfterWorld

I use Google Analytics to keep tabs on this blog's hits as well as what entries were most popular/useful to the readers. (By the way, The Savage AfterWorld welcomed its 3,000th unique visitor last night!) Anyway, "Year In Review" blog posts are popping up everywhere today. But since this blog began in June, a full year isn't even in the bag yet. But I thought it'd be fun (and helpful) to post the Top Ten Blog Posts as determined by the number of unique hits they got as of today. So if you'd like to review the most-visited entries, just click through on the links to follow:

1. Apocalyptic Stormfront MEGA-Table - Posted a little more than a week ago, this table of 50 bizarre storms leaped to the top of the heap in no time.
2. [Thundarr Thursday] New Character Race: Mok - The second of my weekly Thundarr Thursday entries and the one that lets you play Ookla the Mok and others of his race.
3. Random Post-Apocalyptic Settlement and Junk Generators - Links and discussions of two incredibly helpful random "blasted earth" stuff generators I discovered online.
4. Savage Menagerie: Sharks With Frickin' Laser Beams Attached To Their Heads - What can I say? I'm a Dr. Evil fan.
5. [Thundarr Thursday] Show Yourself Wizard! - Another Thundarr Thursday post and the first in which I addressed the subject of magic in the Thundarr universe.
6. Search/Label/Thundarr - Less of an entry, but folks have clicked on the search feature to call up all Thundarr-related posts. Thundarr Thursdays are very popular around here. I get a spike in hits each Thursday.
7. [Thundarr Thursday] Dangerous Encounter: Valley of the Man-Apes - What's not to like about an adventure that ends with a fight with a 100-foot-tall robotic gorilla?
8. [Thundarr Thursday] New Character Race: Barbarian - Grab your Sun Sword and swing into action as a rough-and-tumble barbarian just like Thundarr! "Ahhhhhhhhhhh-hee!"
9. Savage Menagerie: Bearsharktopus - A freaky mutant picture inspired this freaky mutant.
10. [Thundarr Thursday] New Character Race: Sorcerer - And now PCs can play a magic-wielding force for good in the Mutant Future, just like Princess Ariel.

And there you have it. It's apparent that Thundarr Thursdays are a very popular part of The Savage AfterWorld. But it's also clear that a lot of my original content has been well-received and enjoyed by the readers. For that, I say "Thanks!"

And now, onto 2010...
